Quequechan Quilter - 28 December 2024

Well, our Christmas holiday went well.  Though my nephew was ill and couldn't join us.  My niece and her husband drove down from Albany so it was great to see them both.  I spent five days cooking and baking for Christmas Eve and Christmas day.  Everyone loved the food and we spent December 26 with good friends of ours up in Canton exchanging gifts and enjoying another meal together.  With no young children in the immediate family, Christmas is more about getting together, enjoying a nice meal, and enjoying each other's company.  I look forward to it each year. Our Christmas Tree My friend Barbara loved her tea cosy and the her husband Ed liked the afghan I gifted them as well. I gave another afghan to my sister this year.  I have a new afghan I'm working on, but I don't know if it's one I'll keep or gift. I usually don't know until I've finished them.  They're something for me to do when I sit down to watch a show or listen to music as I ca...

Quequechan Quilter - 21 December 2024 - Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays everyone! I've been busy wrapping presents and making a few last minute gifts.  The tea cozy I made for my friend came out pretty well.  I used a quilt as you go method and utilized the floating or mirage stitches on my Janome M8 to do it. Tea Cozy I usually quilt projects like this without the backing fabric so that I can use the backing as a lining and completely cover the seams and rough edges so the piece looks really great when it's done. Mirage Stitch Quilting This weekend I'll start baking cookies for Christmas.  Everyone in the family has a favorite.  My niece likes berlinerkranzer, my nephew snickerdoodles, and my sister and I like thumbprints.  My husband likes anything with chocolate in it.   I'll be hosting Christmas brunch here on Wednesday.  My niece and her husband are driving in from Albany, New York Christmas Eve and driving back Christmas afternoon, so I'll be doing as much of the cooking and prep work on Tue...

Oops.  Forgot to do my blog post on Saturday.  Well, here it is two days late. I realized that I forgot to post a picture of the finished Home on the Range quilt.  So here it is.  I shipped the two quilts I'm gifting today, so they should be delivered by Wednesday. Completed Quilt Quilt Back I've been finalizing the menu for Christmas brunch and doing last minute gifts.  My niece and nephew like to get some of my homemade cookies each year and I'll be adding a gift card and some chocolates to each of their gifts.  My niece and her husband moved back to Albany, New York a year or so ago and are fixing up the house they bought, so a home improvement store gift card is a help to them.  My nephew is a mechanic and always needs something from there as well, so that's what the gift cards will be for. I've got a couple of last minute gifts to make as well.  A very good friend of mine  loves tea and only loose tea, so she's getting a new teapot...

Hello everyone. I'm certain all of you have  been as busy as I have with preparing for the holidays.  I did get all my Christmas decorations up, but it took me three days to do it all.  It looks quite nice and I'm very happy to have a train running around the Christmas tree again.  I always had one and the children loved it when they were little.  It stopped working a few years ago and I've finally replaced it with one that can be clamped to the trunk of the tree to fit supports into for the track which the train runs on. It's a little loud, but I still love having one again. Train Coming Around the Tree I've also updated my sewing space slightly.  I purchased a small foldable desk to put the new serger on.  Working on the serger cabinet was really bothering my back.  This is higher and won't cause as much strain on my back muscles.  I also took some photos showing the sewing space from both angles.  It's not the largest space, nor is it...
