Quequechan Quilter - 5 October 2024 - Quilt Progress Update

Hello everyone.

It's been another busy week.  I had to have the windshield on my car replaced which took some time away from my sewing, but I did get the backing together for the Jelly Sticks quilt and have started to prep it for quilting.

Once that one is quilted, I'll be quilting the Home on the  Range quilt and the second bargello quilt which has more blue in it than the browns that are in the first one.  I also think I'll make a few small things for Christmas gifts.  I just haven't decided on what they'll be or who they'll be for yet.

I received a few more of my pre-orders from Fat Quarter Shop.  Among them are Fiesta by Me and My Sister Designs and Pine Valley by Basic Grey.  I'm always a sucker for Christmas themed fabrics.


There's no plan yet for what I'll do with them, but most of us purchase fabrics we love without a specific plan.  I also find when I do buy fabric with a plan in mind, that plan very often changes.  I almost never use the fabrics I purchase for the patterns I originally thought I'd make with them.

I hope everyone gets to see the latest issue of American Patchwork and Quilting which has a quilt I designed and pieced in it.  They did a wonderful job with the photos which I shared in my last blog post.

I'm still hoping to have the time to make that quilt again in Sherri and Chelsea's Strawberry Lemonade.  I did a mock up of it in EQ and it looks really good.

Michelle Medeiros (Homestead Quilting and Fabrics in Lakeville, Massachusetts) who quilted my Poinsettia's on Point quilt for the magazine is celebrating her son's wedding this weekend.  Congratulations and best wishes to them.

I'm considering putting together a series of articles for people who are considering quilting as a hobby.  I've done some teaching over the years, and I found that people don't understand the potential costs and the amount of time quilting can take.  Comment below if you or someone you know would be interested in this type of series.

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the cooler fall weather.  I know I'm enjoying it as it means I can comfortably sit out on my deck and read.  I'm currently nearly finished with Archer Mayor's latest Joe Gunther novel.  I'm hoping it won't be his last.  He's written over thirty books for this series, beginning with Open Season.  I look forward to them each year.

 Hello everyone, This is if anyone is still checking in now and then.  Taking care of my husband has taken over everything.  By the time I have time to sew I'm too tired to bother.  They finally scheduled his back surgery for this coming Wednesday. Hopefully, it will go well.  If his back continues to deteriorate, they would have been doing it as an emergency surgery to try to keep him capable of walking.  Not that he's doing much of that these days. Diamond Grid-Layer Cake Tumble Quilt All my plans to quilt the the five or six quilt tops I've made have gone down the tubes as they say. I have a basic grid done on one of them and that's as far as I've gotten.  I had hoped to have them all quilted by the end of June so I could move on to making some of the patterns I'd planned on for this year as well as some Christmas gifts.  I don't know if I'll get to any of it now. Quequechan Quilter - 13 September 2025

Apologies again.  I have had no time to work on any quilting or craft projects.  I've been spending all of my time at hospitals and rehab facilities making sure my husband is doing all right. Unfortunately, when he was transferred to rehab this past Tuesday after his spinal surgery, the nurses at the facility were dosing him with too much insulin.  He ended up in the ER Thursday morning with low blood pressure, low body temperature, and a blood glucose level of 30.  He very nearly died because of their stupidity.  Needless to say, he will definitely not be going back there.  Now I have to fight with his insurance to get them to cover an out-of-network rehab facility that wasn't out of network five months ago when he was there for rehab.  It's also less expensive than the place that nearly killed him.  GRRRRRR! Hello all, I've been very busy lately.  I'm still sorting through my late husband's things of course, but I've also been making time for my hobbies.  I finished quilting one of the quilt tops I had hoped to quilt last year, I'm working on another afghan, and finally got around to making two new 18" pillow covers for my living room. Layer Cake Tumble Quilt   Current Afghan Project Buttercup Pillow Covers I still have a few quilt tops to quilt and a few new projects I want to start.  I hope to keep things rolling along even if my progess is a bit slower than I would like. There is a small group of Holy Union Sisters living at the senior assisted living facility where I work part-time.  They are planning a mass in memory of my late husband Gerry sometime this month.  They're a very kind group of ladies and have been very considerate of me and of Gerry before he passed.  It was kind of them to offer to do this mass for him and I appreciate it very much as ...
